Island Medical Program – Curious about studying medicine or science in university? Some volunteering opportunities are coming up in October/November for teenagers aged 13-17 years at Jubilee Hospital. The Island Medical Program is seeking teenage volunteers aged 13-17 years to participate as patients in learning sessions with medical students. In these small group sessions, students are learning to interview adolescent patients and ask about a range of topics including – lifestyle, extra curricular activities, diet, mental health, home life, employment, education, drugs, sexuality and safety. Volunteer Patients are interviewed by two students and there is a tutor who is a practicing physician and two other students present. The sessions happen in Oct/Nov on weekdays after school. Victoria Youth Empowerment Society – To provide youth with a drop-in, low barrier, and safe environment to gain volunteer hours. We will also be running free certifications on Pro-D days like Foodsafe and First Aid and CPR-C. REGISTER

Big Brothers Big Sisters – In-School Mentoring is a program that runs throughout the school year on an on-going basis. Each Volunteer Teen Mentor (14 years old and up) is paired with a child (Kindergarten to Grade 5) at a nearby elementary school. Mentors and mentees spend one hour together once per week at the school, connecting and sharing their interests, playing games and sports, doing arts and crafts, etc. Our team provides training and support for mentors, as well as activity ideas and supplies for visits.
